The symbol of three nuns standing under a Gothic pointed arch is one of the most well-known trademarks in Germany. Practically everyone is familiar with it and spontaneously associates the product "Klosterfrau Melissengeist" (Melissa spirits); but many people do not know that behind the symbol there is concealed the true story of the nun "Klosterfrau" - Maria Clementine Martin.
You will find below information and anecdotes regarding important events from more than 175-year history of the firm.
1775 – The birth of Maria Clementine Martin
Maria Clementine Martin, founder of the Klosterfrau firm, was born in 1775 in Brussels, at the time the capital of "The Austrian Netherlands", as the daughter of an Imperial officer from the Tyrol, Johann Heinrich de Martin and his wife Christine of the von Mergenthal line.

Among the nuns ministering to the sick, arduously hurrying around the sodden, clay soil from one wounded person to another, there is also Maria Clementine Martin.
