Maria Clementine Martin, founder of the Klosterfrau firm, was born in 1775 in Brussels, at the time the capital of "The Austrian Netherlands", as the daughter of an Imperial officer from the Tyrol, Johann Heinrich de Martin and his wife Christine of the von Mergenthal line.

Maria Clementine Martin enters the Convent of St. Anne in Coesfeld. For 10 years she is a nun working at taking care of the sick people. With a recommendation from her convent, she travels to neighboring convents, where her knowledge of the medical arts turns out to be very necessary.
