Maria Clementine Martin, founder of the Klosterfrau firm, was born in 1775 in Brussels, at the time the capital of "The Austrian Netherlands", as the daughter of an Imperial officer from the Tyrol, Johann Heinrich de Martin and his wife Christine of the von Mergenthal line.

Maria Clementine Martin is 14 years old when the revolution breaks out in Paris. The fall of the Bastille was the first in a chain of events that had far-reaching consequences not only for the life of the young woman but also for all of Europe.

Entry into the Convent
Maria Clementine Martin enters the Convent of St. Anne in Coesfeld. For 10 years she is a nun working at taking care of the sick people. During this period she intensively deepens her knowledge of the secrets of growing herbs; she perfects old recipes and develops new medications. With a recommendation from her convent, she travels to neighboring convents, where her knowledge of the medical arts turns out to be very necessary. She also spends time in her native city Brussels, where she produces "true Carmelite drink - balm.".
