Iodine is a vital trace element. As an important component of the thyroid hormones, iodine is elementary involved in the functions of the thyroid. The body can not synthesize iodine. To ensure a demand oriented iodine supply a iodine rich diet containing e.g. sea fish (especially cod, pollack and flounder) or algae should be established. Milk and eggs are also suitable as long as the producing animals were fed with iodine-rich food.
