Magnesium is a mineral of vital importance to the human body; it is instrumental in maintaining essential bodily functions and metabolic processes. It is indispensable in the activation of enzymes, in energy metabolism, in controlling important nerve and muscle functions, and in boosting the body's resistance in times of increased stress." For instance, magnesium also ensures the proper functioning of the human heart muscle.

Calcium is the most important element for building and maintaining strong bones and teeth. Moreover, calcium can also help to prevent excessive reactions of sensitive skin to increased exposure to sunlight. In order to take up an adequate amount of calcium from food and store it properly, our body needs vitamin D3 as an “absorption aid”. It is therefore important to ensure an adequate supply of vitamin D3.

Magnesium and calcium are absorbed in the same sections of the intestine - the so-called “absorption windows”. In order to ensure efficient absorption and utilisation of magnesium and calcium, the minerals contained in the patented taxofit® Chrono Depot® Tablet are released in two phases, based on the principle of chronobiology:

Instant phase: release of magnesium (important for energy metabolism, nerves, and muscles)

Depot phase: release of calcium and its “absorption aid”, vitamin D3

The human body cannot produce any magnesium or calcium by itself, and has only limited capacities for storing them. Consequently, these two minerals have to be supplied on a regular basis with our daily diet. However, an increased demand for magnesium and calcium cannot always be met with food alone. Vitamin D3, on the other hand, can be produced in the skin when it is exposed to adequate amounts of UV radiation (sunlight). An adequate supply of vitamin D3 with the daily diet should be ensured, as the skin's capacity for producing vitamin D3 is reduced considerably with age as compared to a young adult's skin. Moreover, there are certain populations that may not always get enough UV radiation, especially in the wintertime; these include in particular the elderly or inhabitants of nursery homes, as well as individuals working indoors.

Calcium carbonate, magnesium oxide, gelling agent hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, maize starch, bulking agent microcrystalline cellulose, hydrogenated vegetable oil, separating agents magnesium salts of dietary fatty acids, bulking agent cross-linked sodium carboxymethyl cellulose, separating agents (silicic acid, mono and diglycerides of dietary fatty acids and silicon dioxide), cholecalciferol (vitamin D3), colourant iron oxide.
